About Amy’s Song — The Writers’ Room
In the spring of 2017, songwriters Amy Kuney and Matt Simons met for the first time. As they got to know each other, their conversation turned to relationships. Simons shared the news of his recent engagement and Kuney spoke about her relationship with the woman she’d been dating. After hearing about the challenges Kuney faced as a lesbian woman growing up in a conservative Christian community, they decided to write about it. The song, recorded by Simons, aims to capture his co-writer’s life experience and the courage it takes to be yourself in a sometimes unaccepting world. Released worldwide on November 9, 2018, all revenue from the “Amy’s Song” music video will be donated to the United Nations Foundation in support of global initiatives that promote equality for all.
