“I went to a very big high school and at some point there were rumors going around about me being different. I thought the best way to deal with them before they turned into bullying was to be extremely open about it. I wrote an article in the school newspaper and the whole school read it. I wrote that I was gay, and that people should be more respectful to each other even if they are different. I made sure that I came across pretty confident about myself so there was not a whole lot of space to make me feel insecure about it during that time. And even the toughest, hardcore skinhead guys came up to me and said, ‘Well done, good on you.’ It was a good moment for me. There was nothing to gossip about anymore.”

“I have a tough time hearing people who say being gay is unnatural.”

“I don’t think it matters if it’s a dad and a mom, just that kids have parents who love them.”

“We baptized the children of two lesbian women when no one else would do it.”
